The Arkansas State University Newport campus offers on- and off- campus classes in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Adult Education (GAE). There are no charges for tuition and books for these courses. Classes are also open to adults who have already earned a high school diploma but wish to improve basic skills in reading, english, or math. Enrollment is open entry/open exit; students may start at any time.
Another important goal of the GAE classes is to prepare the adult learner, 18 years of age or older,February 1 2013.adult education. for the General Education Development test. Students aged 16 or 17 who meet certain eligibility guidelines may also enroll. The official GED® Test is also given free of charge at the Newport Campus. The test is scheduled at regular intervals throughout the school year. Passing scores on the official GED® Practice Test are required before the student may take the GED® Test.
